Insane Therapy: Veil of silence

10/05/11  ||  Altmer

Holy shit is the volume ever low on this record. I actually have to turn UP my volume to hear anything. Amazing. Loudness war, fuck you in the ass. Good thing it isn’t loud though. This is some Italian (uh oh, the bells of suck are ringing in my ears) deathcore which is basically groove riffs with a lot of snare drum hits and awful vocals. There’s no drawling metalcore whine, but the growls are really fucking terrible.
I think we know what time it is now: time to march the hell away from the computer and go and do something productive.

This record is possibly the most useless thing known to mankind. The guitarists shit out some (surprisingly decent) bottom string riffing with a decent amount of groove, but everything else sounds exactly the same. Lead guitars? What’s that? Basically the guitarists have a repertoire of three notes or so and go DUN DUN DUN a lot. I’m sure you’ve heard it before. A million times. And you hated it every time. This is no different.

The drum production is absolutely retarded (listen to the bit about halfway through “One thousand why (wtf?)” and you’ll see why I just said that). That drum sound has the ability to compete with Lars Ulrich’s buttfucked snare for the “GET YOUR DRUMSET FUCKING TUNED” award. Yes, that award exists, and I just handed it out. Be fucking pleased.

The vocals piss me off to no end. The growls are basically low unintelligible RAARGH RAARGH. The only variation is going “EEEE” and having gang vocals. Meh. I don’t think that works.

Bass? What’s that? (I think that goes for a lot of records, but the bass is particularly not there here).

In short: the riffs are decently groovy. There’s nothing else on this record worth mentioning that you couldn’t play better yourself on a broken drumkit or with torn vocal chords that would be able to be released. Italy – you guys make good food, but you’ve got something to learn when it comes to il divino musico.

Recommendation: Variety. Better vocals. Less suck.
